Despite its name, the maned wolf is not a wolf at all, nor is it a fox, coyote, or dog. It is the only member of the Chrysocyon genus, making it a truly unique animal, not closely related to any other living canid. One hypothesis for this is that the maned wolf is the last surviving species of the Pleistocene Extinction, which wiped out all other large canids from the continent.

I think part of my worry is that maybe I bit off more than I can chew as far as size goes. I’m not a very big person, I’m super lucky to have really long legs but at 5’1 my long legs are still short. Darwin is 17’1 and growing… he was 16’3 when he arrived in November and he won’t stop growing until he’s 6- he just turned three. He’s not just tall either, he’s built like a tank. I expect him to hit just under 17’3 which initially was the most exciting thing ever, I’ve always wanted a really tall horse but now I’m really worried that maybe really tall horses aren’t right for me, maybe I really am just a pony rider.
When I get on him, my leg automatically feels ineffective. I know partially this is due to being so green but I feel like part of it is my leg isn’t around him enough to be communicative. If that makes sense. He moves differently from any of the other horses at the farm, he almost floats across the ground but in theses huge steps that kind of confuse me because we cover so much ground in a very short amount of time without moving above a very even, slow trot. Everything Darwin does is slow and even naturally - he’s going to be such an amazing Eq horse but I don’t know if I’m right for him and the thought makes me sick. I cue things too late. My timing is all wrong on him. I can’t keep him moving forward because my leg isn’t strong enough, or I don’t have enough leg on him to communicate what I’m asking for. I don’t know. I won’t use a crop on him because he was clearly beat with one until his brain exploded and the mere sight sends him into a panic. I have carried one with him once but it was a production trying to do it without it appearing like I was being handed a crop and honestly wasn’t worth it anyways, using it worked BUT MY LEG SHOULD WORK WHY DOESNT MY LEG WORK?
I’ve tried to relay these fears to Bob but all he says to me is ‘if I had that nice of a horse you wouldn’t be able to pry me off him’ and I’m like… yeah… I know… that’s the problem dammit. He’s so amazing the pressure is kind of crushing me. I don’t want to let him - or Bob - down.
You know whats the funniest thing about this? I actually lost a friend because she thought I was pushing Darwin to hard and REALITY VS ASSUMPTIONS, it’s a crazy thing.

i wish it was socially acceptable to discipline people with a crop when they do something bad

PLEASE REBLOG.
This is Nicole Kristine Cable who went missing from her home in Glenburn, Maine on Sunday, May 12th at around 9 p.m.
Her parents have stated that she apparently had been talking to a ‘Bryan Butterfield’ on Facebook, and she had plans to meet with him that evening.
The Facebook profile under Butterfield’s name has been taken down since word has gotten out about Nichole’s disappearance.
The Facebook account also seems to be fake, with neither of the two young men above being Bryan Butterfield or ever being associated with such an individual. The true identities of these two men has been identified and they have been cleared of any involvement in this case.
She was last seen wearing light colored jeans and a light gray sweatshirt.
If anyone has any information about Nichole’s whereabouts, please contact the Penobscot County Sheriffs Department at (207) 947-4585.
